Nick strode through the forest, headed for the town of Forks. He didn't know much about the place he was currently heading for. The only thing that he did know was that it was currently the residence of the Cullen family. He had spent some time with them, around fifty years ago, when he had first been introduced to the vegetarian lifestyle. He'd probably go and visit them, once he got settled.
He pressed on through the forest, moving at a leisurely, human pace, as opposed to how he normally moved over long distance, speeding around at his top pace. He just decided to slow down a bit, get a better feel for the place. As he continued on his way, he sensed someone nearby, and paused, curious.

Once again, Lilith had ditched school to walk in the forest. She knew the classes today were going to be a review of what they've learned so far. Since, tests were coming up, nothing big. But, the teachers always thought it best that the students prepare. For the most part, they were right. However, Lilith didn't think this meant her. She had good grades, B's and A's, one C in that she needed to bring up, but other than that she was good to go.
The trees were she was sitting were dropping tear drops from the rain earlier. It was always raining here, but Lilith didn't mind. She understood what the rain did for the earth not to mention she loved the moldy earthy smell after the rains stopped. Though, her mind did wander into an unhappy place for a second. Thinking how her mother would yell at her for skipping school, and the reason wouldn't matter. She sighed sitting in front of a tree and leaning back to watch the drops fall from the leafs of the tree she was under. This place always seemed to calm her.

Nick spotted the person he had sensed, a young woman sitting beneath a tree, despite the damp ground and drops of water that the morning rain had left on the leaves. He wondered what she was doing out here-it was a weekday, a time when most teenagers were in school. He was considering enrolling, but he wasn't entirely sure how long he'd be staying there, whether or not it would be worthwhile.
He walked over, deciding to be friendly. "Hello," He greeted her simply. He studied her face with his amber eyes. She seemed to be about his age, well, his physical age at least. Definitely a teenager that should probably be in high school, or someone who'd just graduated.

She tried to watch every drop possible as they let go of the leaf they were on and fell to the ground. It was hard, there were so many of them. Plus, water tends to be see through, like glass. Needless to say, she was off in her own little world just trying to concentrate on the drops. Thinking to herself, 'life would be easy if I was a little drop of rain'. She smiled at herself for such a thought. Then a earthquake shattered her little world, she looked dazed to see what caused it. Her eyes rested on a guy that looked about her age. She was never a good judge when it came to peoples ages. His voice had shook her back to reality. She stood quickly after noticing she was staring at him. "Ello"
She rolled her eyes half to herself. This was going to be great, he was probably going to be a new student here and already he would label her weird. 'Or, would he', she thought. She gave him a weak smile. Lilith crossed her arms in front of her, her emerald green eyes darting from side to side nervously. She didn't think anyone was out here at this time of day. School was still in session, wasn't it?

He raised one eyebrow as she rolled her eyes, wondering why she did. All he'd said was 'hello'; perhaps it was something she thought rather than something he did. He smiled back at her though, when she gave him a weak smile. She seemed nervous about something, but again, he wasn't sure what. Maybe she thought he was judging her, or something of that nature.
He sat down on a mossy rock across from the tree she sat under. "So what are you doing out here?" He asked, curiosity in his voice. "I'm Nick, by the way," He added, fairly sure she'd want to know the name of the random guy who'd started talking to her.

She took a deep breath, breathing in the molding earth as much as she could to calm herself. Though, when the guy raised an eyebrow, it didn't help her nervousness. Then again, he probably was reacting to her behavior. She let the breath out and sat back down a little after he did. Her arms were still crossed as she wondered why he was out here. She hadn't spent all day out here, had she?
When the first sentence out of his mouth was, 'So what are you doing out here?', her stomach sank. 'Did the principle send people out looking for her, or her mother', she thought. But, thinking logical she decided they wouldn't, well, maybe her mother. She sighed at that idea. Lilith had been looking at the ground while thinking all of this and when she looked up and saw him. She gave another weak smile, "Sorry. I'm Lilith Rayne. Yes, my first and middle name are basically together, like Mary-Jane" She didn't understand why she explained her name to him, but went on, "I'm out here because, school is just doing a review. Plus, it was pretty out." Her arms loosened and set limply on her lap now. "What are you doing out here? Shouldn't you be making your rounds as the new kid?" Her voice was light, but a touch of nerves hid in her tone.

"Lilith Raine, huh?" Nick repeated, giving her another smile "Its pretty. Bit out of the ordinary, but pretty." He realized she might take offense to that, calling her name unusual, but it wasn't a name he heard everyday. He nodded as she gave her reason for not being in school. "The entire school is reviewing at once?" He asked, tilting his head to the side. "I haven't decided whether or not to enroll in school yet," He said, before he realized what he was saying. He came up with an explanation quickly. "I'm being home schooled right now...but I'm thinking of finishing up high school in public school. Just for the experience."

She smiled as Nick called her name, 'bit out of the ordinary". After all, he mother's name was a little strange as well. Not to mention, her mother was a bit out of the ordinary herself. Especially, when she gave her daughter the name, 'Lilith Rayne'. She nodded as he spoke about how he hadn't decided to enroll yet. Though, before that she had to hold in a laugh about his question on the whole school doing a review at once.
"Yes, my name is unique. And, I like it that way. It just means, I'm not like everyone else. Though, my mother has a strange name as well." She slightly chuckled after mentioning her mother. Only because, she knew what awaited her at home. "I should have been clear. All the senior classes are doing review. We are having a placement test soon to see how everyone is coping and what not. Boring really." She had to raise an eyebrow at him for his rash explanation of why he wasn't in school. "I'm sorry if you thought I was grilling you. I haven't seen you around, so I just thought... her sentence trailed off, but she began again, changing the subject, So, home schooled. That has to be fun. At least you'd have more time in the day instead of going to gym and whatnot." Lilith didn't know why he had had a rash explanation for not deciding on being enrolled yet. So, she didn't want to pry.

"A placement test? Sounds thrilling," Nick said with a smirk, sarcasm thick in his voice. So she was a senior then, almost out of his high school, more or less how old he'd thought she was when he first saw her. It seemed sort of silly for them to have to take a placement test-shouldn't their grades be indication enough? "I didn't think you were grilling me," He told her, then added with a shrug, "And homeschooling...its just fine, I suppose. I don't have any placement tests, or reviews for them, at least."

She nodded smiled at his question about the placement test. She knew how idiotic it must seem because, in all seriousness. She herself found it to be moronic. They were seniors, the only thing they should be worrying about is which college they should apply too. But, school was school. Her fingers had found a neat game as they fidgeted about one another. Lilith could never stay still for to long. "That's good.", she commented about the grilling part. She wasn't sure what else to say to the homeschooling talk. She'd thought it would be nicer than school itself, no teachers to get on your case. Lilith snickered when Nick mentioned the placement test again, "So, no tests. That is an up side to homeschooling. I couldn't do it though. My mom works and she would feel like she herself would have to teach me instead of leaving me to my lessons." In her voice was a fondness for her mother that anyone could easily pick up on. Lilith loved her mother very much and he voice couldn't help but betray that love.
"So, where are you from?" They were the only ones in the woods, why not try to get to know him. They seemed to hit off so far. Maybe, he would be another allie to her in school, if he ever enrolled that is. She moved her sneakers across the red and yellow leafs that laid scattered on the ground. Fall was the time of year Lilith liked, though in Forks, it would be nice if the weather let up on the rain a bit. She could handle the cold and rain, but together it just meant snow might be on it's way. She looked at Nick, "Oh, if you have a watch. What time is it?"

Nick could see her fidget about as they talked, and hoped she wasn't bored by him. "We have tests, just not placement tests," He said, with a shrug. He smiled lightly as she started to talk about her mother; he could hear her love for the woman in her voice.
"I'm from New York, originially," He said, "But I've been moving a lot lately. I haven't been back there in a while." It had been years, in fact, since he'd been in the city. He tugged back his sleeve and looked at his wrist watch as she asked for the time. "Its just after one-thirty," He told her, "Why?"

Lilith was in awe that Nick was from New York. Why did his parents move so much? She would love to live in New York. The big city where there's more than one place to hang out at. A mall, oh, how that would be nice to stroll into. But, this was just wishful thinking. Her mother loved it in Forks, and she too had to admit the little town had a spark to it. "New York? Why'd your parents move?" Her tone was curious sounding as for inside her head, she was griping at herself for asking. Though, it had slipped out as she was thinking about it.
She nodded when he mentioned the time. Her mom got off work at three o'clock, so she had time to make it home and at least act like she got home from school early. "Thank you, and because my mother gets home around three." Lilith grinned, "She'd kill me if she knew I skipped today." The love for her mother was still there in her voice, but a touch of nervousness was there as well. Iris had a temper just like her daughter, and Lilith didn't want to cross her today of all days.

Nick stifled a groaned when she asked why he'd moved away from New York-or rather, why his parents had. Time to come up with a story. "My parents are dead," He said, his tone neutral, "I've been in foster care for a while-I was living with a family not far from here-but I just got emancipated." It was the best he could do on short notice. And the part with his parents being dead might or might not be true. He really didn't know. If they were alive, they were very old by now.
Nick nodded when she explained why she needed to know the time. "Oh, yeah, wouldn't want you to get in trouble," He told her, "Is your mother strict?" It was more a question of curiosity more than anything. He was sure most parents would be upset if their kids weren't in school.
